According to multiple sources, it shows that despite navigating global challenges, tech hiring in the country remains cautiously optimistic, highlighting the resilience and development potential within India’s IT sector.
The top 5 skill suites—development, ERP, testing, design and engineering, and networking—accounted for 66% of the total demand. Apart from these functional skill sets, there was a notable increase in the need for expertise in the areas of analytics (256%), cloud (16%) and cybersecurity (215%) between H1FY24 and H2FY24.
The poll discovered a clear shift in the need for tech talent in 2024 across a number of businesses. Prominent patterns surfaced in sectors such as product development (6%), automotive (15%), finance (BFSI 19%) and consultancy (9%).
While established heavyweights like the automotive and aerospace industries remained at the top, there was a notable shift in production toward newer sectors like semiconductors, electronics and electrical industries. The industry’s adoption of technological innovations and emphasis on supply chain management and product development innovation are highlighted by this diversification.
India’s tech industry is expanding rapidly, with the South Region emerging as the clear leader. The region receives 68% of job requests, followed by the West (16%), North (8%) and East (2%). Bengaluru, the National Capital Region (NCR) and Hyderabad hold a dominant position in the commercial real estate industry, accounting for 65% of all office space leasing activity. The pattern points to a possible “back-to-office” phenomenon, with tech companies accounting for 26% of the space used.
Still, the growth narrative is not limited to well-known locations. According to their potential for expansion, Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities like Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Indore are becoming more popular.
