Ternel, formerly known as MAIF Avenir, is an investment fund that supports businesses that help rebuild and strengthen the world, promote resilience in individuals and communities, and empower people. The investment fund recently announced the creation of a new fund.
The upcoming Ternel fund will use investments ranging from €500,000 to €5 million to invest €120 million in 30 European entrepreneurs, mostly at the seed to series A stages. A wide range of technologies and topics are covered by the fund, such as the need for inclusivity, health, education, biodiversity, climate change, and circularity.
Under the joint leadership of Timothée Poulain and Mohamed Abdesslam, Ternel assembles a seasoned group with a wealth of experience in impact investing, venture capital, and entrepreneurship. Ternel’s global approach strives to maximize the beneficial contribution of the start-ups they sponsor, providing everyone with the means to renew the ecosystems around them in a world where environmental and social concerns are complicated and linked. In addition, it promotes models that have a mutually beneficial relationship between performance and positive impact and achieves a constructive balance amongst all stakeholders.
“With Ternel, we are initiating a new phase in our approach to impact venture capital, adopting a viewpoint inspired by regenerative businesses. Our goal is to support organizations determined to restore balance in our world without needing to compromise between financial performance and environmental impact, between economic growth and social cohesion,” explained Mohamed Abdesslam, managing partner of Ternel.
Ternel uses analytical techniques for its investments that combine a worldwide approach to analyzing effects and economic performance (the Regenerative Framework) in order to support its investment thesis, which is based on the regenerative model. Additionally, to manage the fund’s regenerative objectives and assist the supported businesses, there is a Regenerative Advisory Board comprised of professionals, researchers, entrepreneurs, and academics.
